Escape and Exile

Sauce: https://danbooru.donmai.us/posts/1593898

Not been putting out much lately, I've been a little busy, so I made this quick one, I knew I had to write it as soon as I saw the pic. Of course these never end up being quick because it needed like 10 rewrites before I was satisfied enough to post it.. one draft was even in third person. The pic is based on Nagi no Asukara, haven't seen it yet but I will definitely watch it sometime.

I don’t know how much longer we’re gonna have to work on this island. Hinako isn’t taking it well. She—or he, maybe—is my only friend here, and he hasn’t gotten any more used to his body at all. I try not to think about it too much, I just do what I have to do to get through each day. I’ve already accepted long ago that I’m gonna be stuck like this for a long time.

We were a pair of normal teenage guys when the war broke out. We were certainly going to get recruited in our small country, so we came up with a plan to dodge the draft. We found a pair of girls who were willing to swap bodies with us—they didn’t have much opportunity in their lives otherwise. I knew there was a chance they might not want to swap back later, but we were willing to take the risk. We then accepted jobs on the island. It’s a very distant, tiny, overcrowded island, and there’s not really anything here except rust and fisheries, but it isn’t terrible. The work is hard, but it was the only place we could go, and we’re safe from getting found out.

It wasn’t until the rest of our country’s defeat, destruction, and occupation that we truly became stuck here. Maybe it should have been obvious that this was going to happen, but what could we have done? I thought for sure that Hinako was ready for the possibility that we might be stuck like this for a while—but I guess he wasn’t.

“Jeez, no one’s going to look at your panties. Come on, just get started already so you can put the apron on…

I’m sorry but these are all we got. And all of the raincoats and stuff are
for the men. We’re lucky enough to have these good clothes as it is…
And with, uh, the fresh water rations…

At least we’re pretty, right? … Oh- I’m- I’m sorry! …”
